The official Missouri entry is the VINELink Missouri page. For a participating county custodian, the service receives custody events from that agency. A released status means the feeding agency reported a change. It does not certify the exact release time, explain the legal reason, or prove that the person entered the community.
Cape Girardeau County has two local jail paths. The Cape Girardeau County Sheriff's roster publishes Current, 48 Hour Release, and Held Elsewhere views. The separate Cape Girardeau Police Department Municipal Jail has no public release list confirmed in the research. A city arrest may also lead to booking at the county detention center. Cape Girardeau VINELink Result Fields
What appears depends on the participating provider and record. Treat every field as an agency-supplied snapshot. Do not assume all records offer all events or delivery methods.

A released result does not show that another hold ended. The person could have transferred, entered MODOC reception, been taken into federal or immigration custody, or later returned to custody. For the exact physical exit time, reason, and destination, request the originating jail's release record.
Register for Cape Girardeau Release Notice
For a county-jail offender, Missouri's official notification guidance directs users to VINELink or the MOVANS line at 866-566-8267. Register only after opening the matching record. Custody and court-case notifications are separate registrations, so a custody alert does not automatically enroll a person in court-event notices.
- Choose the registration control. Use “Register for notification” or the current equivalent on the matched record.
- Select an offered event. Choose release, transfer, escape, or another custody event only if that provider displays it.
- Choose a delivery method. Select telephone, text, or email from the choices actually available.
- Confirm the destination. Enter the number or address and complete any verification shown.
- Create the telephone PIN. Missouri guidance specifies a four-digit PIN for telephone registration; email registration does not use that PIN.
- Save the details. Keep the offender number, confirmation, and PIN, then update or cancel the registration when it is no longer needed.
When a telephone notification arrives, the four-digit PIN followed by the pound sign acknowledges the message and stops that notification cycle. It is not an offender identifier. A person should not rely on MOVANS alone, because an urgent safety plan must not depend on a single data feed or automated call.
Missouri MOVANS Is a Separate Layer
Missouri's distinctive feature is the MODOC victim-notification layer called the Missouri Victim Automated Notification System. For a MODOC offender, registration is not simply assumed to be self-service through the county VINELink flow. The official route is to call the MODOC Office of Victim Services at 573-526-6516 so a specialist can register an eligible recipient.

MOVANS information can include custody location, a parole hearing date, a scheduled release date, a parole decision, release-related changes, and return to custody while on parole. Telephone calls continue until the registered person enters the selected PIN. This state layer does not turn VINELink into a public projected-date database, and it does not make protected MODOC information generally available.
Cape Girardeau Release Status Checks
Use the status source that matches the question. The sheriff's Current view covers people presently listed at the county detention center. Its 48 Hour Release view covers recent booking endings, while Held Elsewhere warns that a person may remain confined in another place. A person absent from Current is not thereby released. A municipal detainee may not appear in the county sheriff feed at all.
For an active state prisoner, probationer, or parolee, the MODOC search is the proper state route. That public tool expressly excludes discharged offenders. If a result disappears after final discharge, use MODOC's historical Sunshine database, a focused records request, and the sentencing case. The database can reach people who are or have been supervised, but MODOC cautions that its working data can be incomplete, inaccurate, or not current.
Case.net can explain bond, a release order, probation, dismissal, sentence, revocation, or another court event. It does not supply the jail's physical release timestamp. Cape Girardeau Court Alerts Differ
Missouri distinguishes custody notifications from court-case notifications. A VINELink registration tied to a jail record can report custody events offered by that provider. It does not automatically report a Cape Girardeau County hearing, continuance, judgment, or docket filing. Those court events belong to a separate case-based route.

Coverage limit: a VINELink release update does not rule out transfer, another hold, federal custody, immigration custody, or a later arrest.
BOP inmates require the federal locator. A BOP result may show a release date and “Not in BOP custody,” but that means only that BOP no longer holds the person. ICE's locator covers present detainees and some people released from ICE within a limited recent window, subject to exclusions and entry lag. Neither system is part of Cape Girardeau County VINELink.
